INTERSTATE ADOPTION EXPENSES
AAAA works with adoption officials to ensure successful interstate adoptions. Because each state and country has different regulations, the processes and costs of interstate adoptions vary greatly.
Interstate adoptions of Waiting Children generally require minimal administrative or traveling expenses. The process involves:
- AAAA completing your adoption home study and working with the child's state to complete necessary paperwork;
- Finalizing an interstate agreement to bring the child to Minnesota;
- At least three months of supervision of the child in your home;
- Finalization in the child's state or Minnesota, depending on laws.
In many states, adoption assistance is available for older or special needs children. The adoption assistance agreement is negotiable; parents have the opportunity to review it in advance. Financial assistance for therapeutic and medical services may also be transferable.
Interstate infant adoption follows a similar process, but may involve costs that closely mirror AAAA's private adoption expenses.
