KINSHIP ADOPTION

AAAA is committed to keeping families together.  We know it is in the best interest of children to experience as little disruption as possible when transitioning into a safe, secure and permanent home.

We advocate on behalf of extended family networks and provide resources to help keep children with kin whenever possible.

If parental rights have been terminated on your relative or kin, a trained resource worker will help you navigate the Waiting Child adoption process.

The process generally requires a county agency to do a kinship search.  Once it is determined you are an eligible adoptive parent, you can complete the training, application and home study processes.  From the initial inquiry to placement of the child, this process generally takes between six and 18 months.

If you are a Minnesota resident seeking to adopt a member of your family network living outside the state, AAAA can help. Interstate adoption involves working with out-of-state agencies to bring a child into your home.  Limited interstate adoption expenses may apply.
