PRIVATE ADOPTION EXPENSES

The private adoption process involves specialized counseling, supervision and guidance.  These steps require time and financial resources.

AAAA does not view adoption as a financial transaction.  Every child is priceless.  At the same time, because the cost of private adoption is not subsidized by the state, the agency requires parents to cover the cost of basic services.

The total cost of a private adoption varies from $4,150 to $13,000 or more.  The services that require financial contribution from parents include, but are not limited to:

  • Compiling a comprehensive home study with a trained adoption resource worker (total cost: $3,100).
  • A minimum of three-months of family supervision after the child is placed (minimum total cost: $1,050 for three months).
Additional services required in a private adoption may include specialized mediation, extended supervision, birth parent counseling, court and/or legal fees.  Each of these services impact the total cost of the adoption process.

The agency also encourages parents to consider the following sources of financial information and resources.
